Oregon Surfing Info Updates!
If you're in Newport, Oregon on the Central Oregon Coast, home of the South Beach Jetty, Agate Beach, and Otter Rock surfing areas, stop in at our favorite local surf shop and custom shaper, OCEAN PULSE SURFBOARDS, right on Hwy 101 near the intersection with Hwy 20. Cape Kiwanda Longboard Classic! Probably 1st weekend in August. We vacationed barely an hour up the coast in the Tillamook area, home of Tillamook cheese. Also the home of
a great surfing scene in Pacific City, well off Hwy 101 on the Three Capes Scenic Loop. Pacific City surfing is just south of Cape Kiwanda (home of THE biggest "Haystack Rock"). The surf is an easy walk from the large parking area, right in front of a nice three story ocean(surfer) view motel.(Inn at Cape Kiwanda)
Oceanside is a few miles up the coast, and some surfing is done there also. In Pacific City, visit the South County Surf shop, a great place to rent equipment, run by a friendly surfing family.
Another Great Surfing Spot! The South Jetty of the Umpqua River south of Reedsport. Didn't see it close up, but from up by Umpqua River Lighthouse it looked awesome. And talk about a great recreational area, right behind the dunes is an ORV area. Then in between the jetty construct, are oyster farms. They really know how to use their space around there!
Almost Oregon... Crescent City, California. The Noll Long Board Classic is early in the Fall months, South Beach, Crescent City. This is one mellow and dependable wave. What a relaxing locale, an easy walk off Hwy. 101.
Motels abound. This is the Rhyn Noll Skate & Surf Shop Web Site, where eventually the date of the Long Board Classic will be posted. It's a great shop with oodles of history in it, it feels good. The shop is on Hwy. 101 South going through town, 275 L STREET. More info

Nelscott Reef. Controversial "Nelscott Reef Tow In Classic" Big Wave Surfing Contest. NOT for Amateurs! World Class waves of 30-40 feet only appear occasionally between Oct. 1-Mar. 31. Contest in existance since 2005. Not run by locals, and locals from the Lincoln City area are not invited. Bad blood between
the contest organizers who "own" the break and the locals.
Last contest was held Sunday, Jan. 13th, 2008. Mavericks was the day before. Mavericks Contest Myspace page with full videos of 2008 Contest (Awesome!!!)
